Paved Paradise

In honor of 50 Ways to Wear Denim, I'm throwing it back to this beloved post from 2010.  Can you identify which look from 50 Ways to Wear Denim that was inspired by this get-up? (Hint: it's all in the basket...)

This sketch is chock-a-block with Grandma Enid closet finds. (I "lent" that western-style denim shirt to an old roommate... who moved to St. Thomas. Drat.)

I notice how much my style has changed while going through old My Closet in Sketches posts. I used to love the adornment, the layers, the complexity; but these days, I live for simplicity and comfort. Since I started sketching, I have purged my closet countless times, expelling so. many. pieces that I previously wore and adored. They were all donated to places where someone - hopefully - found them, took them home, and loved them anew. For me, this is the beauty of fashion: that it continuously renews, appearing in countless iterations of expression.

Nonetheless, after the mistake of letting that shirt go (it had pearl buttons!), I enacted a hard line against pitching out any hand-me-downs from family members. They deserve a protected place in this ever-changing closet.
